Transmission

Picked up the Craigslist transmission today (30 May 09) and pressure washed it and the underside of the truck. The guy said it came out of a V8 powered K5 Blazer. Said it was buddy's truck and he was driving it but swapped in a TH350 in its place. So it should work for me. Might swap it out tomorrow............

Brakes done!

Yay! Finished the brakes today!(29 May 09) Looked at the rear shoes through the inspection holes and the look maybe half worn so they'll wait till another time to get taken apart.

Did a little bit of lookin at the transmission.......... Looks like it needs to be rebuilt or replaced ................. I might be in luck though. Found one not too far on Craigslist for $100, just gotta call tomorrow and see what kind of engine was in front of it......... If nothing else it might work as a temporary unit until I can get the Duramax sold and have a little extra money to rebuild the one that's in it now........

Brakes, brakes and more brakes, and some painting...

Well......... Went to replace the calipers yesterday (27 May 09) only to find out I needed rotors too . The left one wasn't in too bad shape, but on the right one the inside surface was TOTALLY GONE!!!!! (no wonder it sounded funny when I used the brakes while test driving after the master cylinder replacement.......) Oh yeah, also all that was left of the pads on that side were the backing plates..... (and the inside one was chewed up a little from not having a rotor surface to clamp to)

Any way, while I have the hubs off I decided to clean up and paint everything from the steering knuckle out just so it's done. Then i'll go back and clean up and paint the axle after i'm able to de-grease and pressure wash the whole truck.

Maybe after I finish the left side tomorrow (if it doesn't rain) i'll be able to start trouble shooting the tranny.......

Brakes

Replaced the Brake Master cyl. today (26 May 09) to try and get the brakes working better....... found out I need front calipers too (the right one is leaking pretty bad)....... oh well might as well have at least the front brakes new now instead of later.....

Then gotta figure out why the tranny won't shift out of first.......

Clean Interior

Well I got the interior all shampooed today (25 May 09). Here's what the interior looks like all nice and clean.

New (to me) Suburban

Well, I just got (on 23 May 09) a 1989 Suburban 2500 4x4 with the 6.2L. Engine runs great, trans needs a little work. Body has the older Chevy rust spots and surface rust on the roof. It has the tailgate. Interior is just ALMOST in perfect condition (headliner sags, 3 cracks in the dash pad). I'll try and get some pics of it tomorrow and get them in my garage. Was told the A/C might need charging too, but that's minor.

This is gonna be my daily driver after I get the tranny fixed and get the Duramax sold. This way the truck i'm driving is PAID FOR!!!

Here's some before pics i took on 24 May, before I started cleaning the interior. Got it all vacuumed out and armor all'd. Now I still need to shampoo the upholstery and carpet. Then start fixing the things that don't work. Will take some more interior pics after i'm done shampooing it.....
